Consciousness as an Emergent Property of Thalamocortical Activity

Dynamic Core -- A Subset of Thalamocortical Activity

The dynamic core is a subset of thalamocortical activity, comprised of the instantaneous neural network connectivity and activity state.  The dynamic core changes via the functionality of reentry and recursion on the basis of about 100 ms. The size of the neural network subset comprising the dynamic core varies widely as thoughts change from more relaxed reverie to intense attention.  Activity firing rates of neurons varies from about 5 Hz to as much as 500 Hz.  Neuronal network connectivity pattern changes as sensory input data change and as mental images and the neural network representations change.  Much variation in iteration and convergence zones of the association cortex.
